postpartum chiropractic care

Supporting your body after birth.

With both Dr. Davis and Dr. Brown being new mothers themselves, they can empathize with other new moms! Pregnancy is tough (postpartum is almost tougher!). They use gentle, specific techniques and are intentional with their care to help your body recover in the best way it can. Both doctors want you to feel heard and feel safe while in their care. It is all about helping you move comfortably through this next trimester (most people call postpartum the fourth trimester) and supporting strength and balance for your body.

Gentle Chiropractic Care to Support Healing, Balance, and Recovery After Pregnancy

Your body deserves care during the fourth trimester. When you feel stressed, your body feels it too. That stress can quickly turn into lack of good quality sleep, slower digestion, more inflammation in the body, and exaggerated aches and pains.

Chiropractic care focuses on the relationship between the spine and the nervous system, which plays a central role in how the body responds to stress. When there is tension in the spine, the nervous system feels more overwhelmed which keeps the body in a “fight or flight” state. Chiropractic adjustments help reduce unnecessary stress signals to the nervous system and allows the body to shift out of a constant stress response.

For pregnant and postpartum patients especially, this calmer inner environment supports healing, resilience, and overall well-being. You feel safer, more grounded, and better able to adapt to your ever-changing environment. Not only that, but many mothers have reported less headaches, less tension in their bodies, better sleep, improved outcomes with breastfeeding, and overall just being in a better mood after getting adjusted. The pelvis shifts during and after pregnancy and continues to do so because of a hormone called relaxin. The Doctor would continue to monitor how your pelvis is shifting and note how these changes are affecting the rest of the body. It’s very important to still get your spine and pelvis checked after giving birth.

About the Practitioners

Dr. Davis and Dr. Brown have worked with many pregnant and postpartum women. They have experience working with mothers during every stage of pregnancy and postpartum. Some moms come in right away after giving birth and some wait a few days to a couple of weeks before getting checked. It all depends on how your body is feeling and how the birth of your baby went.

Regardless of your time frame, Dr. Davis and Dr. Brown take their time to listen, find the problem, and create a solution to help you feel more connected and balanced. The Webster Technique can also be used postpartum! It is primarily a technique used during pregnancy but many postpartum mothers also benefit from it after giving birth.

Pregnancy is a wild ride, and your body goes through so many changes in such a short amount of time! Most times, women are taking care of everyone else in their lives and they are the last priority. We get it, it’s hard to take care of yourself! Your newborn baby needs you and you’re tired, overstimulated, and possibly overwhelmed. We understand, and we have the tools and resources to help you get to where you want to be.

Patient Success Stories

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chiropractic care safe after giving birth?

Yes! Techniques are adapted to your stage of healing and comfort level, whether you had a cesarean delivery or vaginal birth. Care is individualized, gentle, and specific. Your chiropractor will help support spinal alignment, pelvic balance, core stability, and lessen postural strains from having a newborn.

When can I start chiropractic care after birth?

Many patients begin chiropractic care within days or weeks after delivery. This depends on how the birth went, how they’re feeling, and if there were any injuries associated with the birth.

How can chiropractic care help during the postpartum period?

Chiropractic care helps with nervous system function and overall recovery. As a new mom, you are exhausted and running low on fuel. Chiropractic helps “tune up” your nervous system so you can function at your best. It can also help with common concerns such as low back pain, pelvic imbalance, neck and shoulder tension, and postural strain from feeding, carrying, and caring for a newborn.

Can chiropractic care help after a C-section?

Absolutely. We see most moms within a few weeks after their cesarean delivery. Care is gentle and progresses at a pace that supports your recovery. We want to respect the incision healing timeline and that looks different for everyone. We also focus on reducing compensatory tension and supporting posture and movement as the body heals.

What can I expect during a postpartum chiropractic visit?

Postpartum visits are calm, supportive, and personalized. Your chiropractor will listen to your birth story and share the joy of your newest family member! They will also assess posture, spinal and pelvic alignment, check to see how your core is healing (whether you had a vaginal or a cesarean birth), and tailor their adjustments to support the recovery of your body in the best way possible.
