Chiropractic care for pregnancy

Gentle, evidence-informed chiropractic care to support your body during pregnancy

Both Dr. Davis and Dr. Brown have advanced training in taking care of pregnant women. They are both certified in The Webster Technique, which focuses on alignment of the woman’s pelvis during pregnancy.  The Webster Technique is “a specific chiropractic analysis and diversified adjustment.

The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation and SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is improved” (Definition from the ICPA website). The Webster Technique is used by Chiropractors to help analyze and adjust the sacrum and sacroiliac joint. This adjustment reduces nervous system stress so mom feels more relaxed, helps balance the pelvic bones, and also takes tension off the muscles and ligaments supporting the pelvis. The goal is to improve nervous system function and optimize mom’s pelvic function throughout her pregnancy and birth.

Care designed for your pregnancy journey.

Chiropractic will be beneficial to you if you are dealing with any of the following while pregnant:

  • Low back pain
  • Pelvic pain
  • Sciatica
  • Hip pain
  • Round ligament pain
  • Pubic symphysis discomfort
  • Neck and upper back pain
  • Headaches
  • Rib pain
  • Difficulty sleeping

A chiropractic adjustment and the Webster Technique may greatly help the mother during her pregnancy and birth. The analysis and gentle adjustment of the sacrum can improve the nervous system and the way the brain talks to the muscles and structures in the pelvic region. This may help with the uterine contractions during labor and delivery, as well as the cervix dilating properly when labor is initiated. A chiropractic adjustment to the sacrum may also help lessen tension and uneven pulling to the muscles and ligaments that attach to the uterus. Some of these muscles attach to the sacrum and a gentle adjustment could help balance the pelvis therefore balancing the muscle tension. Clearing these restrictions may assist the baby to get into the best possible position for birth. With Webster, we are “creating space” in the mother’s pelvis and helping balance the pelvis so the baby is in the best possible position for birth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?

Yes. Adjustments are specific, gentle, and modified for the pregnant body. We use specialized tables and positioning to ensure both safety and comfort. A favorite part of our appointments is that mama gets to lay on her stomach. We place pregnancy pillows under the pregnant belly so mom and baby are comfortable.

How can chiropractic care help during pregnancy?

Many pregnant patients seek chiropractic care to help with common discomforts such as pelvic pain, hip pain, low back pain, sciatica, pubic pain, and upper back tension. Chiropractic can help support better posture, mobility, and overall comfort as the body changes throughout pregnancy.

Can chiropractic care help with baby positioning?

Chiropractic care focuses on mom’s pelvis and spinal alignment. The Webster Technique is designed to support pelvic balance throughout pregnancy, it is not designed to help position the baby. With the Webster Technique, we are creating more space for the baby and may help optimize the baby’s position in the womb.

When should I start chiropractic care during pregnancy?

Now! You can see a chiropractor at any stage of pregnancy. We see mamas from the day they find out they’re pregnant until right before the birth of the baby.

What does a prenatal chiropractic appointment look like?

At the first visit, we go over your health history and perform certain orthopedic tests to learn more about your body. We talk about your birth plan and go over any issues you may be dealing with. Prenatal chiropractic visits are calm, gentle, and customized to what your body needs in that specific trimester. We have pregnancy specific pillows and adjusting tables designed for your comfort.
